Rachel Pearce is head of denim design at superbrand Superdry. 'Want the perfect jeans?' she laughs. 'The size and proportion of pockets, where the yoke sits, all this is important – but get the basics right first and worry about details later.'

Fit really is key. Rounded tummy? Avoid high-waisted jeans, says Rachel. 'Unless you're happy to cover the waist with a top,' she adds. 'And steer clear of overly worn finishes around the pocket area. Rips and pockets in the wrong places will make a lady with a rounded figure look bigger.'

Legs not quite as endless as Miranda Kerr's? 'Focus on dark, clean finishes,' advises Rachel. 'And if you don't want to wear super-skinny, go for a skinny or slim fit to give legs that long slender look.' No wonder Superdry's sexy skinnies and super skinnies, both available in the brand's signature cool wornin finishes, are still bestsellers.

Men are a little more down-the-line about denim. 'Guys go on the fit and look of the jean, and they're very particular about finishing,' says Rachel. 'When they find a nice finish, they're pretty loyal.'

The big story for boys is still the skinny. Think Pete Doherty, Hedi Slimane, Dior Homme. 'And even if guys don't suit the skinny, they can go for the slim or tapered fit. Our Officer Slim and Copperfill Loose fits tick all those boxes.'

B. To receive your complimentary t-shirt, you must spend over £50 in-store in a single transaction, not in conjunction with any other offers. You must complete the voucher available in Metro newspaper with your name, email address, gender, and town of residence before presenting your voucher. Incomplete vouchers will not be accepted.
